For the second consecutive week, Duquesne head coach Dan Durkin's women's basketball team has received votes in the national top 25 polls even though the ladies have been off the court since Monday, Dec. 9 due to the final exam break.
And this week, DU was recognized for the first time by the Associated Press Top 25 Women's College Basketball Poll as well as the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. Duquesne received five votes in the AP poll and one vote in the USA Today / ESPN poll.
DU's only loss this season was to Ohio State in the season opener. Since then, the Dukes have defeated Lehigh, James Madison, Robert Morris, Pittsburgh, Towson and Toledo. The Buckeyes and the Panthers also received votes this week.
The Atlantic 10's top vote-getter is the 4-1 George Washington Colonials (#21 AP/ #22 ESPN). Massachusetts (8-1), Richmond (6-1), Temple (4-4) and Xavier (6-1) also received votes in at least one of the polls.
The Dukes return to action this Saturday, Dec. 21st, when they travel to Morgantown, WV, for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with West Virginia. The 7-0 Mountaineers, who received eight votes in this week's AP poll, host Wright State tonight before taking on the Dukes.
Both polls are released each Tuesday.
