Women's Soccer Falls in Home Finale

Duquesne (5-9-1, 1-5-1) dropped a 3-1 Atlantic 10 decision to visiting and top-ranked Rhode Island (10-4-2, 6-1-0) Sunday afternoon to conclude the 2002 home slate. Senior Kristin Scharphorn played her final home game with style tying her career mark with a season-best 17 saves on 20 shots on goal.

The game saw a scoreless first half and a total of 68 minutes without a goal before the Rams' Heather Kasparek hit the back of the net at 68:01 to put Rhode Island up 1-0. She netted the second of her three goals on the day in the 76th minute from younger sister Melanie and notched a rebounded goal in the 81st minute for a 3-0 lead.

Duquesne's Maureen Moran scored from Katie Ireland's give in the 87th minute to avoid the shutout.

Four Dukes saw their final home game today in Scharphorn, Erin Marshall, Tricia Erano and Kelly Legge.

The Red & Blue travel to Ohio next weekend for a pair of Atlantic 10 contests at Dayton Oct. 25 and at Xavier Oct. 27.
