Rhode Island Tops DU Volleyball, 3-0

Kingston, Rhode Island -- - Rhode Island's volleyball team shut out Duquesne, 3-0 (30-27, 30-14, 30-19), Sunday afernoon at URI's Keaney Gymnasium. The loss ended the Dukes' three-game winning streak.

Duquesne, playing their second road game in less than 20 hours, saw their record dropped to 13-9, 3-4 in conference play. URI is now 7-13, 3-4 A10.

Sophomore Ashley Macko (Pittsburgh, Pa. / South Park) led Duquesne with seven kills and nine digs. Junior Sarah Morrow (Baytown, Texas / Robert E. Lee) had six kills and five digs. Sophomore Erin Trageser (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) and freshman Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) combined on five of the Dukes' eight blocks.

The Rams controlled the game, holding the Dukes to a negative hitting percentage (-.028) and just 22 kills for the match, compared to Rhode Island's 48. Duquesne's previous season-low for kills was 31 against Pittsburgh.

URI's senior setter Juliana Valencia dished out 40 assists and added 13 digs and sophomore Abby Thornbladh registered 10 kills along with one solo block and six block-assists.

The Dukes return to Pittsburgh for their next matches against Xavier and Dayton this weekend at the Palumbo Center. They'll face the Musketeers on Friday, October 25th and the Flyers on Saturday, October 26th with both games tipping off at 7:00 p.m.
