As a Second-Year Freshman (2021-22)
- Defensive specialist played in 23 games with six starts.
- Scored a season-high five points in a season-high 22 minutes off the bench at St. Bonaventure. His four rebounds in that game tied for team high.
- Added five more points (all in the first half) in a start at Rhode Island.
As a Freshman (2020-21)
- Played in 13 games with three starts.
- Missed the first three A-10 games while recovering from a stress fracture in his foot. Made his return on Jan. 9 vs. Fordham.
- Joined the starting lineup for the first time at Fordham on Jan. 27. Scored six points (two 3-pointers) and added six rebounds in 27 minutes vs. the Rams.
- Added six more rebounds and three assists without a turnover in 26 minutes in a start vs. Saint Joseph’s.
- DU went 3-0 in his three starts (wins at Fordham and vs. Saint Joseph’s and Dayton).
- Had five assists without a turnover in 18 minutes of the regular season finale vs. Rhode Island.
- Finished the year with just four turnovers in 142 minutes.
Before Duquesne
- Averaged 25.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.5 steals per game - with a high scoring game of 39 points - in one season at International Sports Academy at Andrews Osborne in Willoughby, Ohio.
- Shot 50 percent from the field, including 42 percent from the 3-point arc, for 17-17 ISA in 2019-20.
- Averaged 16.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists as a senior for 17-9 Solon in 2018-19.
- Was named honorable mention 2019 Division I All-Ohio by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.
- Teamed with his brother, former DU guard Sincere Carry (Kent State), to lead Solon to the Division 1 Ohio High School Athletic Association state title game in 2018. The two combined for 58 points (a career-high 35 by Bekelja and 23 by Carry) in Solon’s regional semifinal win over Shaker Heights.
Personal
- Mike’s sister, Dee, the former Gatorade Ohio Girls Basketball Player of the Year, finished here career at DePaul in 2022.
- His other sister, Jordan, was a four-year starter and 1,000-point scorer at Clarion from 2016-19.
- His parents, Melissa and Kevin, are legal guardians of former Dukes guard Sincere Carry (currently at Kent State).
- Mike and Sincere, who formed the backcourt at Solon (Ohio) High School, began playing together in second grade.
- Originally committed to play at Division II Fairmont (W.Va.) State following his senior season at Solon, but reconsidered when head coach Joe Mazzulla, a former standout at West Virginia, accepted an assistant coach position with the Boston Celtics.
- Major: undeclared liberal arts.
