Pittsburgh, Pa. – Sophomore outside hitter
Emersen Schrom of the Duquesne University volleyball team was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after her performance this past weekend, announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Schrom helped lead the Dukes to a perfect 3-0 record at the YSU Invitational, earning MVP honors and a spot on the All-Tournament Team. She powered the offense with 6.56 points and 5.00 kills per set, while also averaging 1.22 service aces. Across the weekend, she tallied 45 kills, six blocks, and 28 digs. Schrom opened the invitational with 15 kills, nine digs, three blocks, and two aces in a sweep of Canisius, then followed with 13 kills, eight digs, three aces, and two blocks in another 3-0 win over Youngstown State. She capped the tournament with her first double-double of the season, matching her career high with 17 kills and adding 11 digs while hitting .342 in a victory over Mercyhurst. In that match, she also led the team with six service aces and contributed a block to close out her standout weekend.
The sophomore leads the Atlantic 10 in multiple categories after the opening weekend, ranking first in kills per set (5.00), service aces (11), total points (59), and points per set (6.59).
Schrom is the first Duke since the 2023 season to earn Player of the Week honors and only the 15th player in program history to receive the award.
UP NEXT
Duquesne returns to UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse for the first time this season to host the Chick-fil-A Robinson Classic on Friday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6. The Dukes open play against Loyola Maryland on Friday at 11:00 a.m. before facing FDU later that evening at 6:00 p.m. They will then travel to Robert Morris on Saturday to wrap up the invitational with a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
