Dukes Slay SLU

PITTSBURGH - Maxi Hopfer's goal in the 107th minute of action lifted the Dukes to a 1-0 double-overtime victory over visiting Saint Louis on Saturday night on Arthur J. Rooney Field.

Duquesne improves to 2-1-0 in Atlantic 10 play on the season while the Billikens - who are receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 - suffer their first loss in conference play, dropping to 2-1-0.

Hopfer received a pass just across midfield, sidestepped past the Saint Louis defender before his strike beat Billiken goalkeeper Patrick Schulte to the left side of the net, securing the win for the Dukes.

The stifling Duquesne defense and goalkeeper Domenic Nascimben saw 20 shots in the contest, including seven on goal saved by Nascimben in the win.

The Dukes outshot the Billikens 7-0 in the two bonus periods after Saint Louis held a 20-16 shooting advantage in regulation. The Billikens held a 12-8 edge in corner kicks in the contest.

Hopfer, who tallied a team-high six shots in the victory, now has two goals on the season to pace Duquesne. Nate Dragisich and Jordy Lopez each finished with four shots for the Dukes, as well.

This marked the first win for Duquesne over Saint Louis in 13 meetings in the all-time series.
