DAVIDSON, N.C. -
Jack Emanuel's first career goal in the 4th minute was matched by Davidson's Trey Gardiner in the 48th as Duquesne (6-3-1, 2-0-1) and Davidson (6-3-1, 1-1-1) battled to a 1-1 draw at Alumni Field in Davidson, N.C. on Saturday night.
The tie marked the first point for a DU team in four all-time trips to Davidson.
The Dukes, playing their third overtime match of the season, pressured the 'Cats in the two overtime sessions, but couldn't come up with a second tally.
This was the first OT match for Davidson.
The final stats were evident of the tightly-contested match as Duquesne had an 18-17 edge in total shots and an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Maxi Hopfer and
Ryan Goodhew paced the Dukes with six and four shots respectively. Hopfer, Goodhew and
Tom Tzabari were credited with two shots on goal each.
Domenic Nascimben had five saves for the Dukes who remain unbeaten in A-10 play.
Duquesne plays its second of three-straight conference road games when it heads to Richmond, Va. to face VCU on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duquesne wasted no time getting on the board when Jack Emanuel headed in a corner from Ryan Goodhew in the 4th minute. Emanuel's header looped high, glanced off the near post, and trickled over the goal line. It was the first career goal for the freshman defender.
- Maxi Hopfer rifled a hard low shot that was turned away by Davidson's Giacomo Piccardo in the 14th minute.
- Goodhew put a free kick on net in the 23rd minute.
- Davidson registered its first shot on goal in the 41st minute.
- DU placed three of its four first half shots on goal, while Davidson put one of its four shots on net in the opening 45 minutes.
- Duquesne had six corners to one for the Wildcats in the first half.
- Davidson leveled the score on a Trey Gardiner goal off a corner in the 48th minute. It was the 6-foot-6 Gardiner's first career goal.
- Hopfer's third shot of the match sailed wide of the frame in the 52nd minute.
- Another header attempt by Emanuel off a corner in the 56th minute went just left of the net at the far post.
- Davidson's Connor Smith attempted back-heeled shot off a counter that was covered by DU's Domenic Nascimben in the 71st minute.
- The Wildcats' Henry Howell shot hard and high over the DU crossbar one minute later.
- Emanuel once again carved out space on a corner, but his header off a Goodhew entry sailed high in the 76th minute.
- Davidson's Connor Smith had a one-on-zero opportunity but slid an off-balance shot just left of the net in the 83rd minute.
- Nascimben made a terrific kick save of a Vincent Bennage shot at the 86' mark.
- Davidson closed regulation with three shots in the final minute, including one on net.
- Both teams had five shots on goal in regulation, with Davidson leading in total shots 15-10.
- Piccardo punched away a well-struck Goodhew free kick in the 96th minute.
- Harper Cook shot wide in the 98th minute as DU kept steady pressure on the Wildcats in the first overtime frame.
- Piccardo stopped Hopfer and Nascimben turned away Smith early in the second overtime.
- Nate Dragisich had a shot sail just above the top left 90 following back-to-back corners in the 106th minute.
