Busquets scores in 70th minute for Dukes

PITTSBURGH - Manel Busquets scored in the 70th minute to give Duquesne (1-0-1) a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Oakland (1-1-0) on Rooney Field. Robbie McKelvey finished with eight saves for the Dukes, who used a solid defensive effort to keep the Golden Grizzlies off the scoresheet. The Dukes are idle until next Saturday when they host VMI at 11 a.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Busquets carried the ball down the left side, stepped through a pair of Oakland defenders, and flicked a right-footed shot to the right corner - just by a diving Sullivan Lauderdale - for the game's only goal.
  • Three minutes earlier, Busquets had another long run down the left side thwarted when Lauderdale got just enough of a shot to deflect it off the crossbar.
  • Oakland, which was coming off a 5-1 win over Robert Morris on Friday, had eight shots turned away by McKelvey, who registered his second career shutout.
  • Oakland outshot Duquesne 24-12, including 8-4 on goal.
  • The Golden Grizzlies finished with 12 corners to four for the Dukes.

DUQUESNE HEAD COACH CHASE BROOKS
"Oakland is a very good side. They'll be one of the best sides we'll see this year. For us to dig deep and grind out a result like we did, I'm super proud of the guys. This is absolutely something to build off of, from Friday night to today and into next weekend. We can take a lot of confidence from this result. We knew they were going to be dangerous in front of goal. They scored five on Robert Morris, and that's not easy to do as we know well. We had to dig deep today defensively and I give the guys credit."
