HARMAR, Pa. - The Duquesne women's tennis team recorded its second straight victory of the season and second shutout of the year after a 7-0 victory over Villanova on Saturday morning at the Alpha Tennis Center.
The Dukes (5-7) dropped only six games in the three doubles matches. At #1, Samantha Noble and Megan O'Sullivan were 8-3 winners over Villanova's Mikelle Mancini and Kristin Gobberg. Judy Li and Madeline Bittner pitched an 8-0 shutout over Allison Solberg and Emily Urda at the #2 spot. Tara Majdalani and Ana Mungo took out Sarah and Kelly Katherine Monari 8-3 at #3.
In singles, Mungo was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at #1 over Mancini. O'Sullivan was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Allison Solberg at #2. Noble defeated Amanda Nelson 6-0, 6-0 at #3. Li dropped the first set 6-2 at #4 before winning the next two 6-1, 6-4 over Urda. At #5 Alrissa Tobe was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Alexandra Harding. Tara Majdalani was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at #6 over Anne Cognetti.
The women's tennis edition of The City Game will be Tuesday at the Alpha Tennis Center. Match time will be noon.
