PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne volleyball team was shutout by #19 Dayton 3-0 on Sunday at the Palumbo Center.
Duquesne falls to 11-6 overall and 0-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference loop. Dayton, who improved to 32-2 all-time against DU, is now 11-3, 2-0.
Allison Foschia had a team-high 11 kills along with 13 digs. Sarah Svorinic led the Dukes with 26 assists and Amy Palko recorded a match-best 22 digs.
Becky Novacek had a match-high 12 kills while hitting .476 for the Flyers.
With the Dukes down 17-13 in the first set, DU committed three straight errors followed by a DU kill by Rachel Krabacher to put the visitors up 21-13. Duquesne would score only two more points the rest of the set - both on kills by Foschia - as they fell 25-15.
A 10-0 run at the beginning of the second set put UD in the drivers seat as they never looked back in their 25-15 win.
After trailing early in the third set, Dayton scored five consecutive points to take a 9-5 advantage. The Flyers would lead by as many as eight points four times, the last at 20-12. Duquesne would close the gap to four points at 21-17, but DU would not score a point the rest of the set. UD took the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.
Up next for the Dukes is a tough road trip at 11-6, 1-0 George Washington on Friday and at 9-7, 0-1 Charlotte on Saturday. Start time for both matches will be 7:00 p.m.
