Jonathan Bittinger Qualifies for NCAA Championship

Duquesne University senior wrestler Jonathan Bittinger qualified for the 2008 NCAA Wrestling Championship after winning the 125-pound weight class at the NCAA East Regional at Liberty University on Sunday.

Bittinger, who qualified for NCAA's as a freshman in 2005, went 2-0 at the regional as Duquesne finished third of six teams. The top seed in his bracket, he defeated fourth-seeded John Andel of Millersville 13-6 in the semifinals and pinned second-seeded Thomas Bennett of Gardner-Webb in 2:09 in the championship.

Freshman Kevin Chapman (133 pounds), senior Brad Shrum (149) and sophomore Ryan Sula (184) were each runners-up in their respective weight classes while sophomore Jayk Cobbs (141), senior Cody Midlam (157) and senior Joe D'Orsie (HWT) each placed third.

Bittinger will compete in the NCAA Championships in St. Louis March 20-22.
