Dukes Split a Pair of Sunday Home Matches

The Duquesne wrestling team opened 2007 by splitting a pair of matches on their home mat on Sunday. The Dukes defeated Delaware State, 42-5 and lost to Maryland, 44-3.

Senior 133-pounder Brad Cipriani was the only Duke to win two matches, defeating his Maryland opponent, 4-2 and capturing a win by forfeit over DSU.

Junior Jonathan Bittinger (125 pounds) also won by forfeit over the Hornets and lost his match to the Terrapins, 7-5 in overtime.

The Red and Blue head to Virginia on Friday, Jan. 12 to compete in the two-day Virginia Duals. The Dukes are the reigning champions of the Virginia Duals eight-team American College division and will compete in the highly competitive 16-team National division this season against the likes of Indiana, Virginia, Penn State and Arizona State.
