Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's golf team closed out its first tournament of the 2025-26 season Sunday, finishing seventh out of 19 teams at the Bucknell Fall Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa., at Bucknell Golf Club. The Dukes handed in a 317 Sunday and closed overall at 929, the best score for the program in a 54-hole tournament in program history.
TEAM LEADERBOARD
The host Bison completed their wire-to-wire win Sunday, carding a 295, finishing at 885 overall and owning a 33-stroke advantage over Merrimack, which closed at 918. Rounding out the top five was Purdue Fort Wayne (921), Mount St. Mary's (924) and Saint Francis (925), while Holy Cross finished one stroke ahead of Duquesne at 928. Bucknell B (934), Manhattan (945) and New Haven (948) round out the top 10 teams.
CLIMBING THE CHART
Sophomore
Sasha Petrochko closed out the third round Sunday by handing in a 74 (+4) and wrapped up the tournament at 229, just a stroke out of a top 10 finish. She was one of five players to finish in a tie for 12th individually that also included freshman
Lilly Powell, who was making her NCAA Division I debut this weekend at the 5,901-yard, par 70 course. Powell fired a 75 Sunday after opening with a 78 and carding a 76 Saturday and was joined by Makensy Knaub (77, 70, 82) of Mount St. Mary's, Robbin Zetrouer (81, 75, 73) of Saint Francis and Lillian Gottman (74, 74, 81) of Purdue Fort Wayne to finish in a tie for 12th. Joelle Johnson and Katherine Vice of the host Bison tied atop the individual leaderboard, as each carded a 220 over 54 holes.
THE LINEUP
Sophomore
Katie Fodale just missed a top 25 finish in a field that included 107 participants. She closed Sunday with an 84 and finished the tournament at 234, just a stroke back of finishing in a tie for 23rd. Junior
Lindsey Powanda, who logged six birdies over the course of the tournament, including two Sunday, posted her best round of the first competition with a 77 to close at 236. Freshman
Ashley von Behren wrapped up her NCAA Division I debut Sunday with an 82 and finished at 238 overall, while sophomore
Abby Slankster (240) finished two strokes behind von Behren after carding an 84 in the final round. Also for the Dukes, sophomore
Katie Caryl concluded the Bucknell Fall Invitational with a 244, while sophomore
Paige Meyers finished at 256.
NOTES
Petrochko led Duquesne during the tournament with seven birdies, including three Sunday in the final round … Posting a double bogey on the 185-yard par three at No. 13 in the first round, Petrochko registered a birdie on the hole in both the second and third rounds … Powell finished with two birdies in her first 31 holes of the tournament but closed by registering a birdie on three of the last five holes of the tournament, including the 370-yard par four at No. 14, the 127-yard par three at No. 16 and hole No. 18, a 376-yard par four … Powanda notched six birdies over 54 holes … Fodale notched par 29 times over the course of 54 holes, the most of any Duquesne participant along with Caryl … Duquesne shot 944 over 54 holes at the Bucknell Fall Invitational in its NCAA Division I debut as a program a year ago, shaving 15 strokes off its team score in its second trip to Lewisburg, Pa.

The Dukes will next be in action with the Nittany Lion Invitational, which takes place Sunday, Sept. 21, and Monday, Sept. 22, in University Park, Pa., at the Penn State Blue Course.
