Liberatore Takes Silver on Day 1 of Atlantic 10 Championships

4 Dukes enter record books at A-10 Championships

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Duquesne's men's track & field team opened the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday with freshman Louie Liberatore claiming the silver medal in the javelin and four Dukes entering the record books.

Liberatore, who earlier this season became just the second Duke to earn A-10 Rookie of the Week honors twice, recorded a throw of 60.98 meters (199-10) on Saturday. He scored eight of Duquesne's 20 points, capping off a standout rookie campaign in conference competition.

RECORD BOOK ENTRIES
Senior David Williams clocked the second-fastest 400-meter time in Duquesne history on Saturday, winning his heat in 47.47 seconds to place third overall and advance to Sunday's final at 12:15 p.m.

Jadon Rahman's time of 1:52.25 in the 800 meters earned him third place in the preliminaries. Rahman set the fourth-best time in program history en route to qualifying for the 800 meter finals tomorrow at 12:45 pm.

Sophomore Christian Cupp recorded the third-best long jump in program history with a mark of 7.20 meters (23-7.5), placing sixth and contributing 3 points to Duquesne's team total.

Cameron Bogdan recorded Duquesne's fourth-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Bodgan's time of 9:03.98 saw him finish in sixth place and tally 3 points to the Dukes' total.

NOTABLE RESULTS
Ryan Ellison finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles, cementing his spot in the finals tomorrow at 12:00 pm. Ellison finished with a time of 14.63 seconds.

Ian Baughman and Isaac Wetzel both qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles. Baughman finished second with a 52.59-second time, while Wetzel set a career-best time of 53.71 seconds.

Joe Klanchar tallied a personal-best distance of 59.60 meters (195-6) in the javelin. Klanchar finished in fourth place, adding 5 points to the team total. 

Ben Shields added a point to Duquesne's total with his eighth-place finish in the 10,000 meters. Shields recorded a time of 31:00.79.

LOOKING AHEAD
Duquesne currently sits in fourth place with 20 points, just 4 points behind third place, after six of 22 events.

Christian Cupp sits in second place in the decathlon with 3,768 points after Day One, highlighted by event wins in both the 100m and 400m. He's joined by teammates Colm Matheney (seventh – 3,191 points), Cody Mankowski (ninth – 2,885 points), and Mikey Bill (10th – 2,604 points). Day Two events include the 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m.
