PITTSBURGH – After a team vote,
Hanna Pawela and
Corinne Webb have been named captains for the 2025 Duquesne Lacrosse season. Additionally,
Mackenzie Leszczynski,
Chelsea Evans, and
Faith Conaty will serve as class representatives on the team's newly formed leadership council.
"Hanna and Corinne have done an exemplary job leading the team during the coaching transition," said head coach
Tracy Coyne. "Their steady leadership has made the adjustment to a new coaching style much easier for the team."
Coyne also emphasized the importance of the leadership council: "Max, Chelsea and Faith will play an important role on and off the field to ensure the team remains disciplined and committed to our values. My vision is to work closely with the leadership group to establish a higher team standard, as well as develop a stronger work ethic and commitment to excellence."
A senior out of Glen Allen, Va., Pawela had a standout junior season, leading the NCAA in caused turnovers per game and ranking second in ground balls per game. She set multiple on-field records, while also being named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team and the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team for the second consecutive season. Pawela enters 2024 ranked fourth in career caused turnovers (113) at Duquesne.
Webb returned from injury last season and scored 34 goals with three assists, including seven hat tricks. A three-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, the Maryland native enters her redshirt junior season with 38 career goals in 32 games played.
Pawela and Webb will serve as captains for the second consecutive year.
"There is a definite advantage for programs with a strong leadership culture," Coyne added. "It takes more than talent to win. Establishing a leadership council ensures open communication between the coaching staff and players as we navigate the challenges of the season. I am confident this group has the skill set to lead Duquesne Lacrosse to new heights in 2025."
