Women's Golf Signs Two for Inaugural Roster

PITTSBURGH – Head coach Colleen Meyers has announced the first two signings in Duquesne women's golf history, Sasha Petrochko and Lindsey Powanda.

"I am thrilled to welcome two remarkable athletes who bring a winning combination of hard work, talent, and exemplary character to our Duquesne family," said Coach Meyers. "Sasha and Lindsey have impressed me with their positive attitudes, strong academics, leadership qualities, and competitive spirit.  They share my passion for teamwork, and a drive for excellence.  I am confident that these two athletes will be the leaders on the team, and I am very proud to welcome them to Duquesne Women's Golf!"

Petrochko is a native of Hermitage, Pa. and will arrive at the Bluff after a stellar career at Hickory High School. She helped lead the Hornets to three straight PIAA State Championships, as well as three District 10 titles with an undefeated team record in the region. Petrochko shot a 1-under 71 to lead all girls golfers regardless of class in this fall's PIAA Team Championships. She set the school record with the lowest round (62) and lowest scoring average (69) and earned a third-place medal at the 2022 PIAA State Championships, a year after coming in fourth and has been top-10 each of the past three seasons individually. A two-time District 10 champion, Petrochko was also tabbed the player of the year in the region in 2021 and 2022. Petrochko was named to the All-District 10 First Team all four years in high school.

Powanda joins the Dukes by way of nearby Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh. The 2020 WPIAL individual champion, Powanda was the first female golfer in school history to win the district title. She recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in the PIAA State Championships and was a 2022 USGA Women's Four Ball and Jr. PGA Championship qualifier. As a freshman, Powanda finished in second place at the WPIAL Individual Championships. In 2022, she was inducted to the Mt. Lebanon High School Hall of Champions.

Meyers will continue to fill out the inaugural roster, as the Dukes are slated to begin competition next fall (2024).
