PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University lacrosse freshman
Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second time announced the league office Tuesday morning.
Rodriguez-Shaw posted five goals with one assist and scooped up three ground balls in games against St. Joe's and UMass - the two teams selected atop the league's preseason poll. In the team's 11-7 loss to Saint Joseph's, Rodriguez-Shaw matched a season-high with four goals and assited on another.
The Massachusetts native ranks second on the team and 10th in the A-10 with 20 goals this season. She also has dished out a team-high six assists to total a team-best 26 points, while starting all nine games. Rodriguez-Shaw also ranks second on the team with 19 draw controls.
The weekly laurel is the third earned by a Dukes player this season and the second for Rodriguez-Shaw. She was also named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Feb. 22, while classmate
Mackenzie Leszczynski (Flourtown, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week on March 22.
Rodriguez-Shaw and the rest of the Duquesne lacrosse team will travel to Virginia for a pair of games this weekend. The team will play at Richmond on Friday, April 1, before closing out the weekend roadtrip at VCU on Sunday, April 3.
