2020-21 SEASON REVIEW

Team Hughes Dambrot SBU

In a college basketball season like no other, Duquesne survived a number of starts and stops, cancellations and postponements - as well as an early-January overhaul of the starting lineup - to finish at 9-9, marking the first time since 2008-12 that Duquesne finished at .500 or better for four consecutive seasons.

A GRAND OPENING

Duquesne opened UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse with a wire-to-wire ESPN2 televised
win over Dayton on Feb. 2

"It’s the perfect size.  It’s well done.  It’s different. It’s not a cookie-cutter, NBA arena.  It’s really a great fan experience.  That’s what’s kind of unique about this building it’s not like any other building that any one has seen."

Playing in the midst of a pandemic, the Dukes, whose 18 games played were the program’s fewest since 1938-39, dealt with a two-week preseason quarantine, a month-long December pause and another nearly three-week shutdown in early February to battle back to win just the school’s fourth Atlantic 10 Championship opening round game in 26 years.
