PITTSBURGH -
Marcus Weathers scored 20 points and
Michael Hughes added a 13-14 double-double as Duquesne christened UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse with a 69-64 wire-to-wire win over Dayton.
The victory was the fourth in five games for the Dukes (7-6, 6-5), who snapped a six-game losing streak to the Flyers (10-5, 6-4).
Duquesne, playing its first game on campus in 22 months, made its first six shots in jumping out to a 15-3 lead.
The Dukes, with Weathers and Hughes doing most of the damage, took a 19-point lead at 27-8 on a Hughes jumper.
DU took a brief 20-point lead on a
Tavian Dunn-Martin 3-pointer, before Jalen Crutcher - who had 15 in the half - scored Dayton's last 10 points to key a 10-5 Flyers run that cut it to 39-24 at the half.
The Dukes held the Flyers to 2-of-16 from the 3-point arc in the opening 20 minutes.
Duquesne extended its lead to 55-33 with 9:15 left and was up 18 with just over four minutes remaining, before Crutcher, who finished with a game-high 28 points, scored eight in a row to help the Flyers cut it to 62-52.
Dayton made it a single-digit game for the first time since the 13:37 mark of the first half on a 3-pointer with 57 seconds left.
The Flyers cut it to 67-60 on an R.J. Blakney 3-pointer with 33 seconds to go, before
Mike Bekelja and Weathers hit free throws to make it 69-60 with 22 seconds left.
Dayton scored the last four points for the final margin.
Duquesne, which outrebounded Dayton 38-31, limited the Flyers to just four second-chance points. Hughes, whose rebound total tied his career high, had a dozen boards on the defensive end.
