HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Dayton opened the first set with an 11-4 advantage, before the Dukes went on a scoring spurt to draw back within two at 14-12. The Flyers quickly built their lead back to seven, 20-13, to force a DU timeout. Dayton eventually closed out the set at 25-17.
  • Duquesne narrowed its second-set deficit to 6-4 on a block by Kelly and Parrott and tied the set up at 8-8. A kill by Summer Slade (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's) had the Dukes within one point at 10-9, but DU was unable to get any closer. Dayton built its lead back to five points at 16-11 and went on to win the set 25-17.
  • The Dukes had the upper hand early at 3-1 in the third set. Dayton but DU in a 10-7 hole, before a Slade kill and an attack error had the Dukes in familiar territory down 10-9. The Flyers responded with six-straight points to take a 16-11 lead and went on to end the match by dealing the DU a 25-16 loss.
