Dunn-Martin Three Flattens Fordham

Dukes move to 2-2 in A-10 play with 48-45 win

McCANDLESS, PA. - Tavian Dunn-Martin led Duquesne (3-3, 2-2) with 11 points, including a big 3-pointer with 28 seconds left, to lift the Dukes to a 48-45 Atlantic 10 win over Fordham (1-3, 1-3) at Kerr Fitness Center on the campus of La Roche University.

Duquesne saw a late four-point lead cut to two with 1:40 left before center Michael Hughes, who tied his career highs for rebounds (14) and assists (5), found Dunn-Martin on the left wing for the game-clinching three.

Freshman Chad Baker - who was making his first career start - had eight points for the Dukes. Hughes and Ryan Murphy added six points each for Duquesne, which extended its win streak over the Rams to five.

Fordham's Chris Austin led all scorers with 17.

Duquesne, which shot 34 percent, held Fordham to 29.4 percent from the field, including 2-of-22 from 3-point.

Duquesne missed six of its first seven shots in falling behind 10-2. DU's second field goal - a 3-pointer by Dunn-Martin made it 10-8 at the 11-minute mark.

The Dukes took their first lead since 2-0 on a Hughes layup that made it 14-12.

DU, which held the Rams to 24 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes, led 24-18 at the half.

The Dukes, who managed just two field goals in the first nine minutes of the second half, saw Fordham tie it at 32-32 on a Onyi Eyisi jumper.

It remained a one-possession game until a Joel Soriano gave Fordham its first lead since 12-10 on a bucket that made it 37-36 with 6:50 left.

The Rams extended their lead to 40-36 before Murphy and Dunn-Martin hit back-to-back buckets to tie it at 40-40.

Baker hit a pair of free throws and Marcus Weathers converted his lone field goal to cap the 8-0 run that put the Dukes up 44-40 with just over three minutes left.

Fordham cut it to two on a Jalen Cobb bucket before Dunn-Martin's 3-pointer from the wing.

The Dukes then forced a 3-point miss, Hughes rebounded and Murphy hit one-of-two free throws to make it 48-42 with 15 seconds left. Fordham made it a three-point game on a basket at the final horn.

Duquesne hits the road for the first of back-to-back nationally televised games, the first coming at Dayton on Wednesday, Jan. 13 on CBSSN. DU will then head to St. Bonaventure to face the Bonnies on Friday, Jan. 15 on ESPN2. The St. Bonaventure game was moved from its original Jan. 16 date earlier this week.
