Toppin made both to make it 73-69.

DU had a pair of 3-point attempts in the closing seconds, but was unable to convert.

Dayton, which shot 64 percent in the first half, took a 31-21 lead on a Ryan Mikesell layup with just over five minutes left.

Duquesne cut it to five on a banked in Hughes 3-pointer. Crutcher banked in a 3-pointer of his own from the top of the key to make it 38-30 at the first half horn.

Crutcher opened the second half with another 3-pointer, followed by a put-back dunk from Toppin to make it a 13-point game.
