A Cavalier Performance

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Chassidy Omogrosso tied her career with 25 points and took home Most Valuable Player honors as Duquesne finished the Cavalier Classic 2-0 after a 74-63 victory over Virginia on Sunday afternoon.

Julijana Vojinovic scored 22 points and Kadri-Ann Lass 11 for the Dukes (5-2). Paige Cannon had a career-high 15 rebounds along with eight points.

Virginia's Aliyah Huland El scored 17 for the Cavaliers (3-4).

Omogrosso opened the game with a 3-pointer, but the lead would last less than two minutes. The Cavaliers would take an eight point advantage at the 2:35 mark of the second quarter and hold a 32-29 edge going into halftime.

UVA would score the first two points of the 3rd quarter before back-to-back 3-pointers from Lass and Vojinovic gave the Dukes a 35-34 lead at 8:54.

The Dukes would stay ahead the rest of the game, stretching the lead to as many as 12 points at 62-50 with 3:50 remaining in the game. Virginia was able to get the deficit down to four points with 40 seconds to play, but the Dukes made seven of eight free throws in the final 37 seconds to close out the game.

Duquesne will host Saint Francis U on Thursday night. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
