EVENT: USTA/ITA Regional Championships

QUICK RECAP: Eight members of the Duquesne men's tennis team participated in the USTA/ITA Regional Championships this weekend. The event was hosted by Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va.
In singles qualifying draw, Drew Akins fell to Giuliano Buzoianu of George Mason 6-0, 6-7, 6-2. Harry Walshe advanced after defeating Daniel Gutierrez of Mason 7-6, 6-2. Richmond's John Quenard defeated Walshe 6-4, 6-3.
In the singles main draw, Vitor Lima of VCU was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Adam Blasinsky. Hampton's Matthew Foster-Estwick took out Chris Corrao 7-5, 6-3 and Norfolk State's Benedikt Henning defeated Corey Robinson 6-3, 6-4.
Blasinsky defeated Aries Wong of Navy 6-1, 6-2 in the main draw consolation.
In doubles, Robinson and Walshe fell in a close contest to Austin Jones and Thomas Pecor of Navy 8-7. Dane Bendel and Andrew Ong fell to Kyle Chalmers and Peter Dewitt of Saint Joseph's 8-2. Blasinsky and Corrao dropped an 8-1 decision to Antonio Pejic and Henning of Norfolk State. Tim Kane and Akins battled Justin Carter and Alex Drean of UMBC, but were outlasted 8-6.
UP NEXT: The Dukes will head to Annapolis for the Navy Invite on Oct. 23-25.
