PHILADELPHIA - The Duquesne volleyball team won its seventh straight - setting a new program record - after its 3-0 shutout victory over Temple on Saturday night. With the win, the Dukes improve to 18-6 overall and 6-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and also set a program record with its sixth straight conference win.
The scores of the match were 25-22, 25-15, 25-9 and only took 75 minutes to complete.
Sara Scheirman recorded her seventh straight double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Allison Foschia also had a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. Sarah Svorinic recorded 35 assists and Liz Homan added 10 kills while hitting .556.
With the first set tied at 22-22, the Dukes got a pair of kills by Scheirman and Ashley Buse sandwiched between a Temple error to win the set 25-22.
Temple had a 10-9 lead in the second set before the Dukes went on a 6-0 run to take a 15-10 advantage. DU would score 10 of the next 15 points, winning the set 25-15.
Duquesne made quick work of the Owls in the third set, jumping out to a 17-1 lead, eventually winning 25-9.
This was Duquesne second-ever win over TU in 37 tries. The last win over the Owls was Sept. 28, 2001.
The Dukes return home for a Tuesday Oct. 26th match against Saint Louis followed by Temple on Friday, Oct. 29th. Both matches start at 7:00 p.m.
