LYNCHBURG, Va. - Duquesne fell to host Liberty 3-1 in the second day of the Liberty Invitational this morning. The loss drops the Dukes to 1-1 on the season heading into this afternoon's match against Howard at 3:30 p.m.
The Flames (2-0) took an early lead in the match by winning the first two games by scores of 30-24 and 30-19 respectively. In game one, LU's Jessica Nelson's kill broke an 8-8 tie and game the host team their first lead of the game which they did not relinquish.
Trailing by 26-24 in game three, Dana McLaughlin's kill began a 4-0 run that saw DU take a 28-26 lead en route to a 30-28 win.
However, Liberty came back to win the fourth game 30-22 and take the match 3-1.
Jessica Artman's 14 kills led the Dukes and was a new career-high. Kristin Garnett led DU with 24 assists and McLaughlin's 18 digs was team high.
The tournament concludes this afternoon against Howard at 3:30 p.m. The Dukes' home opener is Friday night as they host North Dakota State in the Courtyard by Marriott Invitational at 7:00 p.m.
