Senior Loui Hall's double-double of a game-best 17 points and 10 rebounds led the Duquesne Dukes past a pesky Saint Francis (Pa.) team 58-57 in the 2006-07 season opener.

Hall was followed by senior Carmen Bruce, junior Jade Singleton, and freshman Keri Pryor with eight points each. Bruce finished second with seven boards while sophomore Kristi Little snagged a game-high four steals for the Red & Blue.

The Red Flash (0-1) was led by Whitney Robinson's 10 points on 5-10 shooting from the field. Beth Halter led SFU with 10 rebounds.

The game had six lead changes and two ties in the first 6:00 minutes of regulation. From that point the Dukes offense went into high gear, hitting eight of their next nine shots to close the half, highlighted by 3-pointers by Hall and freshman Rachel Clancy, which helped DU take a 32-19 lead into halftime.

The Red Flash went scoreless in the final 4:31 of the first half.

SFU came out of the gates to start the second frame on a 7-0 run in 3:48 to cut the Dukes' lead to six points. DU answered with a 19-10 run, capped by Hall going 3-3 from the field, including a 3-pointer. This opened up a 15-point Duquesne lead with 8:49 remaining - the largest of the contest.

SFU made two 6-0 runs to cut the Dukes' lead to 5 points with 4:11 left in the game.

The Red Flash kept chipping away at the DU lead cutting it to just one point (58-57) with :28 remaining in regulation. Little missed a foul shot with :13 ticking as the Red Flash grabbed the rebound and called a timeout to set up a play. But the Dukes' defense was too tough as SFU could not get off a shot in the final :09, securing the victory.

The Dukes (1-0) next see action Sunday afternoon at the Palumbo Center against Pittsburgh. Tip-off is at 2:00 pm. (RG)
