Trey Staunch joined the Duquesne Athletics Strategic Communications staff in October of 2023.
Previously, he served as the Assistant Media Relations Director at Robert Morris University during the 2022-23 season, where he was the primary contact for volleyball, women’s basketball, and women’s lacrosse. He also held the interim position of Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, overseeing media relations for 12 of the university's 16 NCAA Division I sports. Notably, Staunch played a key role in promoting a Mid-American Conference (MAC) title and the reinstatement of both men’s and women’s hockey programs, while managing media operations for the MAC Lacrosse Championship. During his time at Robert Morris, he highlighted the achievements of MAC Defensive Player of the Year Kathleen Kelly and publicized seven all-conference athletes.
Prior to Robert Morris, Staunch was the Assistant Sports Information Director at Division II California University of Pennsylvania in 2021-22, where he managed media relations for all 16 varsity sports, including volleyball, women’s basketball, swimming, men’s and women’s soccer, and baseball. He successfully promoted over a dozen all-conference student-athletes, featuring standout Dejah Terrell, who earned recognition on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-American Team, Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Atlantic Region First Team, and was names PSAC West Athlete and Defensive Player of the Year. Staunch also highlighted head coach Jess Strom, a three-time PSAC West Coach of the Year. In addition to his administrative duties, he served as the play-by-play voice for several sports, including football and basketball.
From 2017 to 2021, Staunch provided play-by-play and color commentary for high school sports on Mix96 Radio in Oil City, PA.
As a student-athlete, Staunch was a two-sport athlete at Edinboro University, where he was a four-year starter on the football team and played three seasons on the basketball team. He completed a rare achievement of being an All-PSAC West selection in both football and basketball. Staunch was recognized as a PSAC Scholar Athlete for four consecutive years and was named to the National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society in 2019. He was also a consistent presence on the Edinboro Dean’s List and served as a team captain for both football and basketball.
Staunch earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism/public relations from Edinboro in 2019 and completed his master’s degree in communication studies in 2021. He joined the Edinboro sports information office while still a member of the basketball team before completing his eligibility in the 2019-20 season. Staunch remained with the office as a graduate assistant before completing his master's degree in the spring of 2021.
