Joseph Setting, who served as the Associate Athletic Director for Business since September of 2018, assumed the title of Associate Athletic Director/CFO in the fall of 2021. He is responsible for direct oversight of all business operations and athletic department financials. Joseph also serves as the direct liaison to the University’s planning/budget, procurement, human resources, and information technology offices.
Prior to his current role, in May of 2017, Setting moved into athletics administration at Duquesne as the Assistant Athletic Director of Business and supported the day-to-day business operations of the Athletics Department. He served in that role until his promotion in the fall of 2018.
Before moving into athletics administration, Setting was the head coach for women’s rowing at Duquesne from 2006-2017. During his tenure, the Dukes achieved a program best 3rd place team finish at the Atlantic 10 Rowing Championship in his first season (prior program best was 7th). In his eleven years at the helm of the women’s rowing program, Setting guided the Dukes to 17 total conference medals, including seven first place finishes. In 2016, the Varsity 8 captured its first ever program medal placement at the conference championship (3rd) and successfully defended the placement the following year in 2017. In Setting’s eleven seasons of oversight, the team captured 184 medal placements (top 3 finishes).
No stranger to the Bluff, Setting arrived to Duquesne in 1998 as an undergraduate student as a double major in information technology and communication studies, graduating in December of 2001 with a B.S and a B.A. As an undergraduate, he joined the men’s rowing team as a walk-on and quickly found a passion for the sport. He received his master’s degree in sports leadership from Duquesne in 2009.
A native of Newtown, PA, Setting resides in Pittsburgh with his wife, Jennifer and daughter, Alana.
