Ninth Season at Duquesne

Rick McFadden is in his ninth season as an assistant coach with the Dukes.

A 19-year veteran on former head coach Keith Dambrot's staff at both Akron and Duquesne, McFadden helped the Dukes to back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1971 and 1972. During the 2023-24 campaign, Duquesne finished with an overall record of 25-12 (.676), including a mark of 10-8 (.556) in the Atlantic 10. The Dukes earned their first automatic bid to the NCAA Championship since 1977 as well as their first win in the NCAA Tournament since 1969.

While at Akron, McFadden spent three seasons as the director of basketball operations before serving as recruiting coordinator for nine years.

McFadden played three seasons for the Zips (2003-05), averaging 8.4 points-per-game as a senior - his lone year under Dambrot. The Struthers, Ohio, native excelled from behind the three-point arc, where he made 107 of his 174 career field goals. He set the then-school single-season record for three-point field-goal percentage, converting 48 percent (56-of-118) in 2003-04.

A two-sport Division I student-athlete, McFadden spent his first two years of collegiate eligibility as a quarterback at Ohio State.

McFadden, who was all-state as both a high school quarterback and forward, completed his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Akron in 2005.

He and his wife, Christie (formerly Zetts), a fellow Struthers, Ohio, native who played basketball at Youngstown State, have two children, Reece and Kellyn.
