Desmond Young, who spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant on Keith Dambrot’s staff at Akron, is in his first season as director of player development./video coordinator.
Young coached at the high school level, worked as a trainer/coach for the National Basketball Academy in Denver, Colo. and played semi-professionally for the American Basketball Association Colorado Kings prior to becoming a GA at Akron.
The Grand Blanc, Mich. native began his college basketball career at Eastern Michigan before transferring to Adrian College in Adrian, Mich., where he finished as the school’s 11th-leading scorer with 1,243 points in three seasons. Young led the Bulldogs in scoring as both a junior (18.5 ppg.) and senior (20.5 ppg.).
Young, who completed his undergraduate degree in physical education/exercise science in 2009, added his master’s in sport science/coaching from Akron in the spring of 2017.
