Daryn Freedman, who joined Ron Everhart's staff prior to the 2005-06 season at Northeastern, is in his second year at DU and first season as director of basketball administration/recruiting coordinator.
The 31-year-old Sharon, Mass. native brings a wide array of professional, college and prep school coaching and administrative experience to the Dukes' staff.
Freedman was the head coach at Brimmer and May School in Chestnut Hill, Mass. for four seasons prior to joining Everhart's staff at Northeastern. While at B&M, Freedman rebuilt a program that captured four-straight league championships and eventually won a New England Prep School Championship in 2004-05. Administratively, Freedman also served as the President of the New England Prep School Men's Basketball Coaches Association during his last two years as head coach.
Prior to his coaching tenure at Brimmer and May, Freedman spent eight years as an assistant to coach John Calipari at the University of Massachusetts, the New Jersey Nets, the Philadelphia 76ers and the University of Memphis.
At UMass, Freedman served as a student assistant for teams that went to the 1994-95 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight and 1995-96 Final Four.
Following graduation, Freedman followed Calipari to the Nets where he served as a staff assistant and worked in the basketball operations department. Following Calipari's departure from the Nets, Freedman served as an assistant to Calipari while Calipari was an associate head coach under Larry Brown with the Philadelphia 76ers in 1999-00. Freedman joined the staff at University of Memphis in March of 2000 after Calipari accepted the head coaching position at the school.
At Memphis, Freedman was part of a staff that put together back-to-back national Top 5 recruiting classes. Among those recruited include current or former NBA players Dajuan Wagner, Amare Stoudamire, Kendrick Perkins, Qyntel Woods and Rodney Carney.
Freedman is familiar with the Pittsburgh area having worked for 10 summers as a coach, clinician and commissioner at the famed Five-Star Basketball Camp on the Robert Morris campus in nearby Moon Township, Pa.
Freedman earned a degree in sports management at the University of Massachusetts in 1997 and completed his law degree from Seton Hall University in 2000.
Freedman and his fiance, Dana Sussman, are planning an August wedding. The couple will reside in Robinson Township.
