Duquesne University placed a school record 243 student-athletes on the 2003-04 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, which was released by league commissioner Linda Bruno Thursday morning. DU's total - in addition to eclipsing the previous school record of 211 set last year - ranks first among league members and ups DU's all-time number of student-athletes honored to a league-high 1,654.
The Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll recognizes all student-athletes who register a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average for the academic year. In all, a total of 1,830 student-athletes from the 12 member schools were honored.
Duquesne University competes in 18 sports sponsored by the Atlantic 10 conference including eight on the men's side (baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis and outdoor track & field) and 10 on the women's side (basketball, cross country, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, swimming, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field and volleyball).
Since the inception of the Commissioner's Honor Roll in 1996, Duquesne has placed a league-high 1,654 student-athletes on the list: 124 in 1996, 154 in 1997, 164 in 1998, 172 in 1999, 185 in 2000, 203 in 2001, 198 in 2002, 211 in 2003 and 243 this year.
