Three Dukes Named to First A-10 Spring Weekly Honor Roll

March 17, 2003

Duquesne's Leia Zingone (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) have been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Co-Performer while Kelly Mulford (Lutherville, Md. / Maryvale Prep) and Devon Peightal (Fairview, PA / Cathedral Prep) were named the Women's Lacrosse and Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Zingone helped lead the Dukes to a 7-0 victory over St. Bonaventure taking a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 6 singles while teaming up with Sarah Shanahan for an 8-0 sweep at No. 3 doubles. Zingone, who had missed a majority of the fall due to a broken leg, make her singles comeback vs. the Bonnies. She is 4-0 this spring as she and Shanahan also teamed up for No. 3 doubles victories over Embry Riddle and Siena during the Dukes' spring trip to Florida.

KELLY MULFORD

Mulford accumulated five points over the weekend netting four goals and adding an assist as the Dukes went 1-1 to open Atlantic 10 play. She tied the team and game lead with two goals on five shots in DU's 11-9 win at George Washington and led the Dukes with two goals and one assist for three points in their loss at Richmond. She is tied for first on the team with 14 goals and stands second with 16 points.

DEVON PEIGHTAL

Peightal picked up a fourth singles win in a dual match against St. Bonaventure on Saturday. This victory was one of the Dukes' two wins in a 5-2 loss to the Bonnies. This is the second weekly honor for the Erie, PA area native, who received this same award last fall (Sept. 30, 2002) as he helped the Dukes to a 5-2 win over Bucknell. Peightal's 9-8 singles mark is the second best for the Dukes so far this season.

Today's honors open the Spring Atlantic 10 awards season.
