Duquesne Unveils Plans for Proposed Athletic and Recreation Complex

Duquesne University president Dr. Charles Dougherty and Director of Athletics Brian Colleary announced today the University's proposal to build an athletic and recreation complex adjacent to the A.J. Palumbo Center. The proposed two-story building will comprise 35,494 square feet of floor space and roof level athletic surfaces. In addition, an internal bridge will connect the complex with the Palumbo Center.

Proposed facilities include:

  • Fitness center for student use.
  • Aerobics room with a wood floor for aerobics, dance and cheerleading practice.
  • Athletics Department training, treatment and weight training areas.
  • Lounge with vending area.
  • Conference room with a glass front facing the reception area, table with seating for 14, as well as video and TV capabilities.
  • Atrium with a high ceiling and a view into the weight room that will act as a focal point for recruiting.
  • Athletic Director, Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches offices.
  • Film viewing room with a large screen TV, marker board and fixed, theater-style seating for 15-20 people.
  • Academic resources and computer center.
