Jan. 14, 2003

Three former Duquesne University athletes will be honored at halftime of the Dukes' men's basketball game versus La Salle on Saturday, Feb. 8 as Dan DeFelice (class of '81), Korie Hlede (class of '98) and Katie Michalski (class of '96) will be inducted into the Duquesne University Sports Hall of Fame.

DeFelice, a four-year football letterman, played middle linebacker and was the team's leading tackler each season from 1977-1980. He was a 1979 National Collegiate Football Association First Team All-American as well as a 1980 All-District selection. In addition, he was named the Duquesne University Athlete of the year for 1980-81.

Hlede virtually rewrote Duquesne's women's basketball records book from 1995-98. A 1998 Women's Basketball News Service First Team All-American, she was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year in 1995, A-10 Player of the Year in 1996 and 1998 and is Duquesne's all-time leading scorer with 2,631 points. She is also second all-time in Atlantic 10 scoring, was third in the nation in scoring in 1998 and recorded the first triple-double in the program's history with 29 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists versus Cleveland State. The Croatian native, the fourth overall pick in the 1998 WNBA draft, completed her fifth season in the U.S. women's professional league this past summer with the New York Liberty. She also is the only DU women's basketball player to have her jersey retired.

Michalski was a four-year starter and three-year team captain of Duquesne's volleyball team from 1992-95. Currently in her sixth season as an assistant coach for the Dukes, she hails as the school's all-time service aces leader with 187 and is second all-time in career digs with 1,421. A member of the 1993 Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team, she holds the school record for most digs in a three-game match with 22 versus temple.

DeFelice, Hlede and Michalski will have their names added to the Hall of Fame plaque located in the main lobby of the A.J. Palumbo Center.
