BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — The Duquesne University triathlon team opened its 2026 campaign Sunday by hosting the Duquesne Cup at Brady's Run Park, placing second as a team. The Dukes put four competitors in the top 20 and eight in the top half of the 57-athlete field, led by sophomore
Catherine Staley's 12th-place finish.

Staley paced Duquesne with a time of 1:03:02.34, highlighted by a 9:58.17 swim that ranked among the top times in the field. She was one of seven competitors to break the 10-minute mark in the water and added a team-best 19:49.41 run split.
Making her collegiate debut, first-year
Isabella Fernández Aguirre was the second Duke across the finish line, placing 14th overall in 1:03:54.04. Junior
Rachele Lavagno followed in 18th at 1:04:48.00, while senior
Kate Potashnik rounded out Duquesne's four top-20 finishers in 19th at 1:05:04.96.
Senior
Robyn Hunt completed the scoring five for the Dukes, finishing 21st in 1:06:53.32, while
Vivien Mattice followed four seconds later in 22nd.
Tamara Kun and first-year
Hannah Foster finished back-to-back in 27th and 28th, respectively.
Lavagno was Duquesne's second competitor out of the water, posting a 10:18 swim, while Fernández Aguirre exited the swim course one second later. Potashnik joined Staley with a sub-20-minute run, clocking 19:56.32.
Arianna Flauto added a 20:18.84 run split, while Fernández Aguirre finished the run in 20:43.07.
