Clermont, Fla. – The Duquesne triathlon team opened competition at the two-day Clermont Draft Legal on Saturday in Florida.
RESULTS
Ten Dukes competed across the Super Sprint and Elite Development Race (EDR).
In the EDR — consisting of a 750-meter swim, 20K bike and 5K run — freshman
Catherine Staley placed fifth overall out of 74 finishers with a time of 59:31. Fellow freshman
Mikele Jopson finished 17th in 1:01:07.
Jopson (19:44) and Staley (20:01) posted the sixth- and seventh-fastest run splits in the field, while
Kate Potashnik clocked a 20:12, good for 10th overall in the run. Staley also led Duquesne in both the swim (5:18) and bike (32:15) during the EDR.
In the Super Sprint,
Vivien Mattice (35:23) and
Alexandria Meyers (35:38) paced Duquesne with seventh- and eighth-place finishes, respectively, in a field of 50.
Robyn Hunt added a 13th-place showing in 36:31, giving the Dukes three top-13 finishers.
Mattice led Duquesne in the swim (5:06), the fourth-fastest in the race, and the bike (16:29), which ranked third overall. Meyers recorded the Dukes' top run split at 10:31, the fifth-best in the field.
The Super Sprint featured a 375-meter swim, 10K bike (two loops) and 2.5K run (one loop).
Duquesne returns to action Sunday, with the EDR beginning at 8 a.m. and the Super Sprint set for 11 a.m. Follow results and more information on the meet website,
