Richmond, Va. – The Duquesne women's basketball team hit the road on Wednesday night, dropping an 86-55 decision at Richmond during conference action inside the Robins Center. With the loss, the Dukes fall to 7-14 overall (.333) overall and 0-10 in Atlantic 10 action.
POINT OF EMPHASIS
Richmond opened the game strong, hitting three of its first six shots from the floor to jump out to a 10-4 lead. Freshman
Raevin Washington converted a layup to trim the deficit to four with just under six minutes remaining, but the Spiders closed the quarter on a dominant 16-0 run. During that stretch, Richmond shot 6-of-11 (.545) from the field, knocked down three of six attempts from beyond the arc, and forced seven Duquesne turnovers. The momentum carried into the second quarter as Richmond scored 11 straight points to build a commanding 37-6 advantage with under seven minutes left before halftime. Sophomore
Mackenzie Blackford briefly halted the surge with a three-pointer, and after another Richmond triple, she connected on her second consecutive three. Later in the quarter, following a Washington layup, the teams traded the final 12 points, with Richmond taking a 49-20 lead into the break.
SECOND HALF SPARK
Duquesne opened the second half with a spark, knocking down its first four shots of the quarter. Junior
Reina Green ignited the run with a three-pointer, and after a Maggie Doogan triple, Green followed with a layup. Following a Richmond turnover, Blackford converted a layup before Green capped the surge with her second three of the run. After a brief scoring drought, the Dukes pieced together an 8-1 stretch, paced by Washington with four points. Sophomore
Fatou Sane added a bucket, while freshman
Alexis Bordas knocked down a pair of free throws. Richmond answered with a 9-3 run to close the quarter and carried a 69-43 lead into the final period. Duquesne turned in its best offensive showing of the game in the third quarter, shooting 9-of-14 (.643) from the field and converting a pair of free throws.

Duquesne placed two players in double figures, led by
Raevin Washington. The freshman finished with a team-high 12 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the field, while adding three rebounds and two blocks.
Reina Green joined her in double figures, scoring 10 points on 50.0 percent (3-of-6) shooting, including two three-pointers, and pulling down four rebounds.
Mackenzie Blackford and
Alexis Bordas each contributed eight points, with both players connecting on a pair of triples. Bordas also chipped in six rebounds and two assists.
Maja Rohkohl paced the Dukes on the glass with 10 rebounds to go along with six points and two assists, while
Kellie McConnell dished out a team-high five assists.
