Duquesne will be competing in the WNIT for the 11th time in program history and the sixth time under head coach Dan Burt. The Dukes hold a 9-10 all-time record in the tournament, highlighted by 'Sweet 16' runs in 2011 and 2015. This marks their second consecutive appearance, following last year's run that included a 69-65 overtime victory over Monmouth in the second round before falling to Purdue (71-50) in the Super 16.

Entering the tournament with a 19-12 overall record, the Dukes advanced to the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship. After earning a first-round bye, they secured a 79-63 win over Fordham before narrowly falling to top-seeded Richmond (63-58) in the quarterfinals.
