Guinyard Named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

Senior guard honored after helping Dukes open season 2-0

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Senior guard Tarence Guinyard of the Duquesne University men's basketball team was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Monday in the first weekly awards of the 2025-26 season. In helping the Dukes earn a pair of home victories last week at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, Guinyard produced averages of 22.0 points, 6.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in wins over Niagara (Nov. 3) and Sacred Heart (Nov. 7).

In his debut on the Bluff, an 83-63 victory over the Purple Eagles, Guinyard led the Dukes with 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor, including 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, and also added five assists, three rebounds and a steal. The win over Niagara helped Duquesne earn victory No. 1,500 in the opening game of the program's 110th NCAA season.

Four days later, Guinyard helped the Dukes open the Villanova Challenge with a 92-80 triumph over Sacred Heart by contributing 25 points, a career-high seven assists, four rebounds and three steals. He tied for game-high honors in scoring with graduate student forward John Hugley IV and finished 5-for-10 shooting from the field while converting 13 of his 15 opportunities at the free-throw line.

Guinyard helped bolster the Dukes against the Pioneers early in the second half during a 10-2 run that pushed the lead for Duquesne to double digits, 60-50, and forced Sacred Heart to call timeout. He posted an assist on a three-pointer by senior guard Cam Crawford, grabbed a defensive rebound that led to a jumper from Hugley IV and, on the next possession, came up with a steal at the top of three-point arc that led to a three-on-one fastbreak and a layup from Crawford.

Through the first two games of the 2025-26 season, Guinyard is shooting 61.1 percent (11-for-18) from the floor, including 46.2 percent (6-for-13) from deep, while knocking down 84.2 percent (16-of-19) of his chances at the stripe. In the early going, Guinyard sits atop the Atlantic 10 leaderboard in assists per game (6.0) with Ashton Walker of La Salle while producing an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.00.

Led by head coach Dru Joyce III, the Dukes wrap up a three-game homestand to open their 2025-26 season Tuesday, Nov. 11, with an 8:00 p.m. tip against Queens in their second game of the Villanova Challenge. The Dukes will conclude the multi-team event (MTE) Saturday, Nov. 15, by traveling to Philadelphia, Pa., to take on the host Wildcats at Finneran Pavilion.
