WASHINGTON, D.C. - Duquesne (15-8, 5-5) used a mammoth 28-0 first half run to put away George Washington (11-12, 5-5), 93-67, on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.
The win, which was the 499th for Duquesne head coach
Keith Dambrot, evened the Dukes' Atlantic 10 record at 5-5.
The 26-point margin of victory was DU's largest ever in an Atlantic 10 road game.
Dae Dae Grant led four Dukes in double-figures with a game-high 18 points.
Quincy McGriff hit four of his five 3-pointers in the second half in adding a career-high 17 points.
Joe Reece had 13 points, five assists and a pair of blocks and
Tre Williams finished with 12 points..
DU's 17 3-pointers, which came from seven players, were one shy of the school record.
Duquesne led 19-17 before holding George Washington scoreless for over 10 minutes in putting together a 28-0 run, its longest in six seasons under
Keith Dambrot, in jumping out to a 50-20 halftime lead.
Grant had 11 during the run with
Jimmy Clark III, R.J. Gunn Jr. and Williams adding five points each.
The 30-point halftime margin was DU's largest ever in an A-10 game and seventh largest in the post World War II Era of Dukes basketball.
Duquesne took its largest lead at 59-22 on a McGriff 3-pointer with 16:33 left. The lead hovered around the 30-point mark until the game's final four minutes.
DU shot 52 percent from the field overall, including 53 percent (17-of-32) from the 3-point arc.
The Dukes assisted on 22 of their 34 field goals.
The Duquesne bench, led by McGriff, outscored the GW bench 32-16.
Duquesne opens a three-game homestand on Wednesday, Feb. 8 vs. George Mason at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
NOTES
- The 26-point margin of victory was DU's largest in an Atlantic 10 road game. The previous best was a 24-point win at Fordham (86-62) on Jan. 27, 2021.
- Duquesne's 30-point halftime lead (50-20) was its seventh-largest in the post-WWII Era. It was the largest ever in an A-10 game and largest since a 53-16 (+37) halftime lead over Delaware State by Dambrot's Dukes on Dec. 9, 2017.
- This was career win No. 499 for sixth-year Duquesne head coach Keith Dambrot. Dambrot, who is in his 25th season overall, has posted 40 wins at Tiffin, 48 at Ashland, 20 at Central Michigan, 305 at Akron and 86 at Duquesne.
- Duquesne's 28-0 run - which spanned from 10:48 to 1:36 of the first half (9:12 total) - was its largest under Keith Dambrot, replacing a game-opening 20-0 run earlier this season vs. Winthrop.
- The win snapped a three-game GW series win streak. Dambrot is now 7-4 vs. the Colonials at Duquesne.
- Quincy McGriff scored 14 of his career-high 17 points in the second half. McGriff tied his career high - set earlier this season vs. Winthrop - with five 3-pointers (5-of-8).
- Joe Reece's five assists tied his career high set in 2020 vs. Florida Atlantic when Reece was at Old Dominion.
- Duquesne's largest lead 37, the last of which came at 64-27 with 14:30 left ... George Washington never led ... Duquesne led for 39:06.
