Farwell Reaches Intercollegiate Singles Championship

Was Joined by Teammate Kiearra Saldi in Saturday's Semifinal Round

ADDISON, ILL - Olivia Farwell reached the final of the 2022 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championship, before falling to Stephen F, Austin's Chloe Skurzynski (202-167) on Saturday at Stardust Lanes in Addison, Ill.

Farwell, who was bidding to become Duquesne's first national champion in any sport, defeated Mabel Cummins of Vanderbilt, 213-191, earlier in the day to advance to the final.

The four-time All-American was looking to avenge teammate Kiearra Saldi's 205-164 defeat at the hands of Skurzynski in Saturday's other semifinal match.

Farwell, competing in her final event as a Duke, placed second and Saldi, a junior, tied for third among a group of 650 bowlers who began their quest for the title in regional play that began in March.

"We are so proud of Liv and Kiearra for their performance this past week," said Duquesne head coach Jody Fetterhoff, who saw the Dukes comprise half of the semfinal field. "To have not one but two bowlers competing for a National Championship is amazing. They have set the standard pretty high."

"What a way for Liv to finish her impressive career - as the runner up on national TV" continued Fetterhoff of Farwell. "She has helped elevate this program into a top-ranked team and we all are excited to watch the next step of her career as she goes out on the PWBA tour this summer."

Farwell held a one-pin lead through five frames, before Skurzynski strung together a pair of strikes and Farwell posted an eight in the sixth. Both bowlers posted spares in the eighth and ninth frames as Farwell was unable to make up ground.

Farwell and Saldi qualified for the Intercollegiate Singles Championship after finishing 3rd and 6th at the Addison sectional qualifier on March 11. Farwell averaged 217.0 and Saldi 208.5 in the six qualifying games.

Farwell and Saldi were seeded 9th and 10th, separated by one pin (1197-1196) in Tuesday's qualifying round at the Championship.

Farwell defeated Britany Myers of McKendree (595-554) on Tuesday, Anna Warkel of McKendree (596-556) and Rebecca Dodson of Mount St. Mary's (626-619) on Wednesday to reach the semifinal, while Saldi - who was on the other side of the bracket - beat Madison McCall of Tulane (623-535), Serenity Quintero of St. Francis, Ill. (551-483) and Rebecca Hagerman of McKendree (647-513) to reach the final four.

Duquesne was one of 16 teams that competed in the Intercollegiate Team Championship where it dropped decisions to Stephen F. Austin (2-4) and Mount St. Mary's (3-4) on Thursday.

The national championship and semifinal matches will be televised via tape-delay on CBS Sports Network Tuesday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
