PITTSBURGH - Freshman
Chad Baker (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for his performance in Duquesne's two games last week.
The 6-5 guard, who averaged 11.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals in games against Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure, is the first the first Duke to be recognized by the A-10 this season.
Baker, in his fourth career start, scored a game-high 19 points in helping the Dukes rally from a 15-point second half deficit to defeat URI. The Santo Domingo native went 6-of-7 from the field - including 5-of-5 from the 3-point arc - as the Dukes snapped a two-game losing streak.
Baker, who became just the sixth player in school history to make five or more 3-pointers in a game without a miss, added five assists and three steals - with just one turnover - in 34 minutes vs. the Rams.
Baker, who is averaging 7.7 points per game in A-10 play, added four points, two rebounds and a pair of assists vs. St. Bonaventure.
Duquesne (4-6, 3-5) returns returns to action on Wednesday when it takes on Fordham (1-7, 1-7) at Fordham's Rose Hill Gym at 6:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
