PITTSBURGH - Duquesne freshman diver Sidney O'Donnell (Solon, Ohio / Solon) earned a spot at the 2020 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships with her performance at the Western Pennsylvania Invitational on Friday afternoon hosted by Pitt at Trees Pool. O'Donnell posted scores of 279.75 on the 1-meter boards and 287.45 on the 3 meter to pace the Dukes. 

Both figures also represented school records for the freshman, who was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week after her showing in the Dukes' victory over Marshall. 

The qualifying standards for the Zone Championship are 265 on the 1-meter and 280 for the 3-meter. The meet is slated to take place at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park hosted by West Virginia University on March 9-11.

Head diving coach Charlie Hauser: "Today was an awesome day for Duquesne diving. Coming off a strong performance against Marshall, Sidney was on a mission to perform at her best. She went big on all her dives today while staying focused on her form at the same time, and it paid off. While today was excellent, there are still a few dives I think Sidney would like to do again, so I'm sure in the last few meets we can even improve upon this achievement a bit more. I'm very proud and happy that she was able to get all her dives in order and hit the scores." 
 
"I feel as though this was one of the best performances of the whole squad as well. Everyone knuckled down and got the job done. Our focus "on the little things" seems to be paying off now. I'm excited to see where we go over the last few meets and then of course A-10s in just a few short weeks after the meet today."
