PITTSBURGH - Alyssa Monaghan and Sarah Veilleux each scored 17 points to lead Saint Joseph's to a 69-50 victory over Duquesne on Saturday afternoon.
The Dukes (20-5, 10-2 A-10) only had a pair of players score in double-figures in Chassidy Omogrosso (11) and Julijana Vojinovic (10).
SJU came out in the 1st quarter and quickly built an 11-2 lead and went up by 15 points at 21-6 at the 2:17 mark.
Duquesne was able to cut the deficit to nine points at the beginning of the 2nd quarter on Amanda Kalin's and-1, which made the score 25-16. However, the Hawks went on a 14-4 run to make the score 39-20 at 2:23. A 3-pointer by Omogrosso closed out the scoring with the Dukes trailing 40-25 going into halftime.
After back-to-back 3-pointers by Omogrosso and Kadri-Ann Lass, Duquesne was able to get within 11 points at 42-31, but Saint Joseph's answered with another run to take a commanding 22 point lead, 53-31 with 5:58 remaining.
The Hawks' lead would get to 23 with 2:42 left in the 4th quarter.
The 50 points and 19 field goals were both season-lows for Duquesne.
Up next, the Dukes travel to Saint Louis on Wednesday. The Billikens (14-11, 8-4 A-10) were 70-66 winners over Rhode Island today.
