Tryout Information and Waiver
The Duquesne University department of athletics has announced the hiring of Kristin Coates as head cheerleading coach and Cyndi Hadfield as assistant coach for the squad.
Coates, a former Dukes cheerleader, completed her business administration degree at Duquesne in 2003. She returns to her alma mater after spending the last two years at Montour High School and most recently at West Allegheny High School.
A native of Imperial, Pa., Coates has worked with Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) where she assisted with such collegiate programs as Penn State, Syracuse, Fairmont State, and Slippery Rock.
Kristin, who completed her master's degree in exercise physiology from the University of Pittsburgh in 2007, has completed internships with Velocity Sports Performance, formerly in Gibsonia, and Kinderkinetics. She is a certified by Protecting God's Children to instruct for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, and is an active member in the Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) Club at Slippery Rock University, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance AAHPERD).
Hadfield brings over 20 years of coaching experience to the Duquesne staff. Her most recent work includes a position on the management staff of Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) in which she acts a liaison for colleges and universities and is responsible for event coordination, camp operations, supervision of coaches and customer service for both local and national competitions.
Hadfield is extremely active in the local cheerleading community and has had much success in her endeavors as a high school varsity cheerleading coach for the Montour school district. Under her direction, squads have received many awards including: two-time Pa. State Champions, nine-time UCA Summer Camp Champs, four-time National Champions and the National Grand Champion 2008 Americheer International Competition.
During the last two years, Hadfield has acted as the director of cheer at All-Star Athletics & Gymnastics, a private all-star cheerleading and gymnastics training facility located in Robinson Township. There she has been instrumental in the development, recruitment, staff training and coordination of choreography, clinics and camps for the all-star competitive cheerleading program.
Her certifications include the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators (AACCA), National Federation of High School Associations (NFHS) and National YMCA for fitness and strength training. Hadfield has recently been named to the American Cheerleader Magazine Who's Who Among Cheerleading Coaches 2008, in honor of her accomplishments through the years.
