Charlotte, N.C. - Duquesne University's men's and women's teams are both third after the first day of competition in the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Center in Charlotte.
Pittsburgh-area sophomores Amy Ruffolo (Bradford Woods, Pa.) and Tom Slosky (Brackenridge, PA) both qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Ruffolo, who entered this event with the Atlantic 10 record, qualified with a time of 10:46.21. Charlotte's Tsehaye Dagnachew set a new A-10 mark of 10:32.11. The North Allegheny alum previously met the standards, at the Raleigh Relays, for the ECAC Tournament .
Slosky's (Highlands H.S.) time of 9:04.17 guaranteed himself a slot in the NCAA regionals which will be held in Greenville, N.C. over the Memorial Day weekend.
Actually, he was already set for the tournament when he created Duquesne's
record (9:02.03), also in The Tar Heel State at Raleigh.
The competition concludes Sunday morning, May 7, 2006.
