Philadelphia, Pa. - Duquesne University's women's cross country team finished sixth in the 14-team 2005 Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country Championship race Saturday morning at the Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.
Senior Brianne Scott's time of 18:56.01 for 21st place paced the Dukes in the 125-runner competition. Sophomore Samantha Howard was 27th at 19:05.3, senior Tara Gerlach was 36th, sophomore Amy Ruffolo 43rd and senior Elizabeth Graham crossed the line 50th.
La Salle repeated as the the league champion with 40 points, well ahead of second place Charlotte (103) with Richmond one point back (104). Rhode Island was fourth (109) followed by Xavier (143), Duquesne (170), Saint Joseph's (173), Dayton (195), Massachusetts (220), Fordham (238), George Washington (299), Saint Louis (310), Temple (413), and St. Bonaventure (454).
La Salle's Rachel Papin won the individual crown with a time of 17:43.0. Aja Jackson of Charlotte was named Rookie of the Year after finishing seventh and the Explorers' Charles Torpey was named the women's Coach of the Year for the fourth time.
