Bryant McAllister led a balanced attack with 16 points as the Dukes extended their all-time series lead to 8-1 over YSU. Kieron Achara added 14 and DeVario Hudson scored 12 for Duquesne. Quin Humphrey led Youngstown State with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Achara led the way defensively for the Dukes with a career high-tying 5 blocked shots.

Duquesne never trailed in building a 30-18 halftime lead. Seven of the eight Dukes that played scored in the first half, while the lone non-scorer, point guard Martin Osimani, handed out six assists in the opening 20 minutes. Duquesne was equally as effective at the other end, blocking seven shots in holding Youngstown State to 5-of-25 shooting. DU opened the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers by Osimani and McAllister to open an 18-point lead. Youngstown State could get no closer as the Dukes maintained a lead of 20 or more for the majority of the second half.

Duquesne's 10 blocks were its most since 12 in a game vs. George Washington on Dec. 27, 1990. Youngstown State's shooting percentage was the lowest by a DU opponent since George Mason was held to 27 percent shooting in a 64-48 Dukes win exactly four years ago on Dec. 31, 2004. Duquesne, which hit 7-of-15 3-point attempts, shot 48.1 percent for the game. The Dukes also used their height advantage to outrebound YSU 43-30. Freshman Chauncey Duke led DU with a career-high 7 rebounds. Osimani finished with 7 assists and just one turnover in 28 minutes.
